Specimen & Pleasure Fishing

Gwinear is a hidden gem in the heart of cornwall, with two beautifully kept, well stocked fishing lakes open all year round.

Our specimen lake was established in 1988 and over the years has matured into one of the best day ticket fishing venues in Cornwall.  Since its ownership change in October 2014 the lake has had new carp. 40 carp between 15lb – 20lb and 33 carp at 20lb+ were added to the existing stock In December 2020 a further 20 carp weighing between 15lb and 17.5lb were added to the stock levels and in November 2021 a further 15 carp at 15lbs were also added. The lake has eight over 30lb+ carp. The lake has varying water depths, with features including reeds, wildflowers, water lilies, a willow tree hanging in the water and two islands in the middle. You can purchase a day ticket at our tackle shop from 9:00 in the morning 7 days a week.

There is a maximum of 6 people who can fish the specimen lake at any given time. To book your swim, please call 01637 210045.

 

Our pleasure fishing lake was redesigned in 2015 turning it back into one lake, new large pegs and a path all the way round makes it great for easy access. The Lake has varying water depths, with features including reeds, wildflowers, water lilies and an island in the middle with a new bridge across to it. Anglers of all levels of experience will enjoy catching the variety of fish including Carp (up to 20lb), Bream, Tench, Perch, Rudd and Roach.

Our on-site tackle shop which is home to Gwinear Angling and is open 7 days a week in the summer, and six days a week in the winter. The shop and has large array of tackle in stock.

On site parking is available and free.

Lake Day ticket opening times – Summer 9:00am – 7:30 pm 

Requirements for fishing the Specimen Lake:

  • Stiff arm weigh sling
  • 42inch landing net
  • Large unhooking mat or cradle
  • Carp care kit
  • All these items need to be dipped in our net tank before fishing
Pleasure Lake

Pleasure Day ticket: £10 (2 rod max)

Child Day ticket: £6 (12 and under) 

We will provide a landing net, with or without a handle

Lake opening times –  9:00am – 5:00 pm

All ticket must be bought from the tackle shop before fishing

Lake Rules

Specimen Lake Rules

  • All tickets and keys must be obtained from the tackle shop before fishing
  • Each angler must have a large unhooking mat or carp cradle, a solid arm weight sling, a 42″ landing net and carp care kit
  • All nets, slings and unhooking mats must be dipped in the net dip tank outside the tackle shop before fishing
  • Maximum 3 rods allowed
  • No one under the age of 16 can fish the lake.
  • All hook holds, lifted scales and sores must be treated with a carp care kit antiseptic
  • Barbless or micro barbed hooks only
  • Minimum 10lb line
  • No bait boats allowed (baiting poles are allowed)
  • No nuts or meats of any kind allowed
  • No sacking of fish
  • No rods to be left unattended at any time
  • No lead core allowed but safe zone leaders and tubing are allowed
  • Remove all litter and place in the bins provided
  • Do not cut, damage or climb the otter fencing
  • Do not pass fishing equipment over the otter fencing
  • Only use the life rings in case of an emergency
  • All gates must be closed and locked at all times
  • Dogs must be keep on a lead at all times

New rules from 1st July 2022

  • No bait boats allowed (Baiting poles are allowed)
  • Key holders only –  Specimen lake gate must remain locked at all times
  • No tents allowed
  • No visitors allowed. Checked in guests are permitted. 
Match & Pleasure Lake Rules
  • No Keep nets except in a match
  • Please use landing nets provided which must be obtained from the tackle shop and returned at the end of the day
  • Barbless hooks only
  • No floating baits in matches
  • No nuts or meats of any kind allowed
  • Feeders and leads must be free running
  • Fish from permanent platforms
  • Net all fish, do not swing them in
  • Remove all litter and place in the bins provided
  • Only use the life rings in case of an emergency
  • All children under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult
  • Dogs must be keep on a lead at all times
  • No meats
